BUTTERS, Brenda Tamson….
Peacefully at Chartwell White Eagle Long Term Care Residence, Toronto, Brenda Tamson Butters (née Wood) passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 in her 79th year.
Brenda was born in 1942 to Evelyn Bullock and Harvey Wood. Brenda is survived by her cherished husband Kenneth Caskenette and is the proud Mom to her two children Michelle Oros (Tim) and Christopher Butters (Trish). She is known as Gramma B to her adored grandchildren Lauren, Lindsey and Avery Butters.
Brenda had a passion for work and a very successful professional career in the field of healthcare. Graduating from the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1963, she worked her way up the chain to the position of President and CEO of Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital, which she retired from in 2004. Brenda gave much of her time to volunteering and was very passionate about serving on various boards such as Casey House and the Ontario Lung Association. Additionally, she spent numerous years working as a surveyor for the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation. She felt very strongly about the continuation of quality improvement in the healthcare industry. Brenda and her husband Ken loved to travel and spent much time at their house in the south of France, along with visiting many other countries abroad. She had a vigor for life and always expressed an abundance of enthusiasm for whatever she took part in. Her energy will be sorely missed.
A private family service with interment at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham, Ontario, will be held in the near future. In Brenda’s memory, donations may be made to the Toronto Humane Society, 11 River Street, Toronto, ON M5A 4C2 where she worked as a volunteer and was a true lover of animals, especially all the cats. Benda will be missed. I worked with her for several years at TDMH when she was Director of Nursing Services. She was a very caring person, an excellent executive and a friend.
“Mrs.Butters” was my head nurse on orthopedics at Vic when I first graduated in 1970.
She got me off to a good start. My condolences.

So sorry to hear this sad news. I have many fond memories of Brenda while she was CEO of TDMH. She was a great mentor to me, during my Manager role.
So sad to hear of Brenda’s passing. My fondest memories of working at TDMH was with Brenda who was a true leader and mentor. We stayed in contact following our retirements and had countless lunch get togethers to reminisce.
I loved her enthusiasm and passion for life and all she accomplished.
I will always remember her and miss her greatly.
My condolences to Ken and family. Brenda was a great lady.
Very well respected in the hospital community. We had the pleasure of staying at Brenda and Ken’s gite in the south of France several times. It is a great place,

My deepest condolences to Brenda’s family. I knew Brenda from TDMH and worked with her in developing their transition unit. From there we developed a friendship and enjoyed our dinners out. She was an exceptional person, nurse, leader, and friend.
May you find courage, strength, and hope during this time of grief and loss.
My condolences to Brenda’s husband, family and friends. Brenda was a one-of-a-kind lady. I first met her at TDMH. She was very approachable and friendly…always making whomever she was talking to felt that they were all that mattered at that moment. Over the years I have never met anyone like Brenda, She will be missed!
For 4 years i was Brenda’s caregiver.. a woman with an impeccable sense of style, sweet and beautiful.. i will cherish every memory i had with her… from walking in the streets of downtown TO, sitting in the park, reading (even with my sister) until she moved to hearthstone.. still walking and reading… forever grateful of having the chance to know her and Ken..
may God take you with him in paradise.. Rest in peace ❤️
My deepest condolences to Brenda’s family. I worked with Brenda at TDMH. I really liked Brenda. She had a smile that would light up the room when you met her. She would talk about her trips to France. She was a lovely lady.
Ken and family. My deepest condolences. I knew and worked with Brenda for many years at Victoria Hospital, and continued to correspond with Brenda once she went to TDH. I rented their France home a number of times, and spent many coffee outings with Ken and Brenda, discussing those wonderful France memories. Brenda was definitely a very intelligent, classy lady, and will be missed. Gail Crook
