Jack Churney
Obituary
CHURNEY, Jack…
Jack passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in palliative care at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. He was loved dearly by his wife of 53 years, Maureen Churney, his two sons Christopher and Daryl, his daughter-in-law Jodi, son-in-law Jason, grandkids Jack (named after Grandpa) and Grace and his younger brother Alan Churney. Jack was predeceased by parents John and Jessica and brother Terry.
Jack moved to London, Ontario from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia as a teenager looking for work. He found the love of his life when he moved here, Maureen Thompson. They were married in 1969 and were true partners in life, love, and lots of laughs always. He also found his vocational calling and served our community as a London Police Service officer for 32 years, retiring in 2004 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He truly loved being a police officer for, as he put it, afforded him the opportunity “to meet folks from all walks of life”. In retirement, Jack and Maureen traveled the world and loved spending time with their grandkids and friends.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the tremendous staff on the Oncology and Palliative Care floors at Victoria Hospital.
In true Jack style, his final wishes were for a celebration of life at a time and place where his friends and family could gather to raise a pint and tell funny stories. As such, the family would like to invite friends to the London Police Association Hall (Cuffs), located at 330 William Street (back door), London, Ontario on Sunday, December 18, 2022 from 1-5pm. Light snacks will be provided. Arrangements entrusted with Cremation London & Middlesex, 519-858-2467. Online condolences shared at www.cremationlondon.com

Jack was such a wonderful man with a great smile, a quick wit and perpetually optimistic attitude towards life. A great police officer and dedicated family man, Jack will be truly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
Chris and Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Jack was a true friend and work Colleague.
Jack was an amazing Man full of dedication. His sense of humour and positivity were traits I recall the most. He was so respected at the LPS and was one of the best at 601. Jack was one of my first supervisors and helped me greatly through my rookie years. You will be missed. Condolences to his family. Rest in Peace Jack !
Dear Churney family, please accept my sincere condolences on Jack’s passing. He was a good, honourable man, with a great sense of humour. He was always a pleasure to work with and just to be around. He will be greatly missed.
You don’t meet many nicer people than Jack; always cheerful and ready with a story or comment to lift your day. It was a pleasure to know you and a privilege to have served with you. RIP.
My thoughts are with his family. I worked with jack at london police and at Western. Straight forward supervisor and you always knew where he stood. Always a rare gift. Always enjoyed his stories at our survivors dinners. Rest well.
The Baldock Family.
Jack was a great copper and an even better person. We shared a lot of laughs over the years. He will definitely be missed.
My deepest condolences to my whole family on the loss of Uncle Jack. I remember when we lived on Trafalgar Street in London and Uncle Jack would visit often (in a London Police Cruiser or his Police motorcycle) I’m sure the whole neighbourhood must have thought we were always in trouble. Although he was my cousin, I have always referred to him as Uncle Jack.
I remember Jack as one of the kindest, caring people at work. He would never walk by our cpic office without saying hello and chat with us. When I was still living in Strathroy, I’d sometimes bump into Jack and Maureen in the grocery store, they’d always make time to stop and chat for a bit. My family and I sending you love and strength through this difficult time. ❤️
Kindest regards Elaine Ten Have (formerly cpic unit LPS)
Sending heartfelt condolences to the Churney family at this difficult time. Chris, Jod, Jack and Grace you are in our thoughts and prayers, take care of each other this holiday season.
Love the Canario family
Good Bye Jack. You were one of the good ones.
Chris, my thoughts and prayers are with you, Maureen and your family. Jack was a wonderful man with an infectious laugh. On a motorcycle trip to the east coast, back in the 70’s, I was able to spend time with Jack and his family. Great hospitality and friendship. I truly enjoyed working with Jack. He had a way to bring light to everything. Jack you will be missed.
Jack was one of my first supervisors on the job and was one of the best I ever worked for. We were in some pretty crazy situations from out of control strike scenes to bar fights and some epic chasing of the bad guys. Jack was always there leading the charge. He was a good man and always looked after his people. Thanks for the memories and for always being there for us Jack. You’ve earned your rest my friend. Heartfelt condolences to the Churney family for your loss.
Our condolences to the Churney family. I always respected Jack as police officer and a person. He always had a smile and great sense of humour.

Chris, Maureen and the rest of Jack’s family:
I had Jack as a sergeant early in my career on Patrol Section 4 and then later on the Selective Enforcement Unit. He was a quiet leader who always had time for his people and showed a good sense of humour. Since retiring I always enjoyed a chat with him at the “ROMEO” lunches at Tiger Jack’s. He will be missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace sir.
Jack showed his caring and compassionate side when he helped friends of mine deal with the death of their son in a car accident. Jack always had a smile and someone I looked forward to seeing at work. My sympathies to Maureen and the family. RIP Jack

It’s been years since I have seen Jack. Worked with him at LPS in the late 70’s & 80’s. He always had a smile on his face and a kind word. My condolences to Maureen & the rest of his family.

I had the pleasure of knowing Jack when I worked as a civilian at 601. He was one of the few cops that always had time to stop and chat with me without requesting me to do something for him.
His great smile and cheerful demeanor made me believe that I was a friend.
He was one of the best!
May God Bless you Jack!
We hope your family finds joy when they reflect and recall the many happy moments they enjoyed with you over the years.

The best way to describe Jack was that he was a true gentleman who had a great outlook on life. I respected him and was lucky enough to have worked for him for period of time at LPS. He is gone much too soon. RIP Jack.
