Jean Marie Preston
Obituary
PRESTON, Jean Marie (nee Krohe)…
May 1st, 1943-November 3rd, 2025
Passed away peacefully after a brief illness at University Hospital, London. Jean was born in Simcoe and grew up on a tobacco farm in the tiny hamlet of La Salette, Ontario. She raised her children in Newcastle up until 1977 when she moved to Tillsonburg, where she has called home for over 48 years. She commuted to London to work for TDS for over 30 years, retiring at age 65.
If you had to pick one word to describe Jean it would be generous. She was a fabulous cook, most famously for her cabbage rolls. She would often make enormous batches of them, having none left for her and John after giving them all away to friends and family. To say she had a green thumb is an understatement and her generosity with her garden’s bounty was equal. Just weeks before she died, she brought 2 giant bags of pristine peppers and tomatoes for the office staff at her eye specialist. When she wasn’t tending to her enormous garden and flowers, she was happiest hitting yard sales and thrift stores with John, hearing and relaying all the news from Texas from her daughters and granddaughters and sharing pictures of her great grandsons, and spoiling her 2 beloved cats.
Jean is predeceased by her parents Joseph Krohe and Violet Krohe (nee Wardell), her sister Patricia and her step-daughter Jill Majernik (2024) (nee Peuvergne).
Left to mourn is her partner of 47 years, John Peuvergne, her daughter Debbie Detter and granddaughter Kristen McKee, her daughter Diane (Joe), granddaughter Danielle (Will) Pope and great-grandsons Hudson and Cade, her son Kenny Preston and granddaughter Sadie Bezzo, her step-daughter Renée (Todd) Hallman, grandsons Jack and Tristan and granddaughter Jillian, her step-son-in-law Scott Majernik and granddaughters Ava and Jocee. Jean will also be sadly missed by her sister Fanny (Nedim 2015) Krohe, her sister Rose (Clark) Gunoff and their children Erin and Lisa, her brother Ed (Evelyn) Krohe and their children Jon and Mike and grandchildren, and her many neighbours, friends and extended family in France.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family graveside interment at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted with Cremation London & Middlesex, 519-858-2467. Online condolences shared at www.cremationlondon.com
