I remember Eric as a great friend and mentor and fellow teacher at oakridge he was an inspiration in art appreciation building bookcases inno use of found objects good humor and a fantastic bud every day of the week
My heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Mr Luce. He was my art teacher for five years back in the 1980s at Oakridge. He was a kind, decent and intelligent man. As an educator he was an inspiration to his students. In my memories he is in the classroom, smiling and surrounded by students. I am eternally grateful to have known him and to have had him in my life. May he rest in peace.
I was a student of Mr. Luce at Oakridge SS for grades 10-13, 1974-1978. He was, without reservation, my most favourite teacher over those years, often having students show our work along with his at local displays and smaller shows. I remember him having an enthusiastic and playful approach to teaching art while providing honest guidance and feedback to help us learn. A number of years ago, I found two of his watercolours being sold at Memory Lane. They were beyond my reach at the time, but I desperately wanted them and have always regretted not finding a way. My heartfelt sympathy to his family and those close to him. I am saddened to learn of his passing, but enjoying memories from all those years ago
My heart aches with the news of Eric’s passing. He was my grade 9 English teacher at Westminster Secondary School in 1969-70. We were out in the portables, as Westminster was the site of the joint venture of both Westminster S.S. in the morning and Saunders S.S. in the afternoon. I was a good kid, but troubled by my parents recent divorce. I became the class clown, seeking any affirmative attention I could get, which in the 4S9A class, came readily. Eric was a gracious teacher, putting up with my antics as he navigated getting the class to pay atttention to him, and not me. I recall the day when it all came to head, and he gave be a very public ‘dressing down’ in front of the whole class. It was exactly what I needed, but I didn’t like it. I went onto become a mechanic, ran my own car repair business for 11 years, then became an automotive teacher at Laurier S.S. from 1989- 2020. I had many students just like me, and I fondly told every class over those 30 years about Mr. Luce, and the lesson he taught me that day. May he rest in peace, a job well done Eric. Thank you for speaking into my life at a time when I needed it the most.
