Obituary
REED, Peggy…
On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, Peggy Reed (n. Martin) passed away peacefully in her 102nd year with her daughter by her side. She lived independently in her own home with her son’s assistance until June 20, 2024 when injuries resulting from a fall required her admission to Parkwood Institute.
She was the beloved wife of the late John Reed (d. 1987) and the loving mother of Carole Anne Reed and John Philip Reed. She was the loving sister of the late Phyllis Thrasher (London, ON), the late Andrew Martin (Fredericton, NB) and the late Joan Dondale (Carleton Place, ON). She was the grandmother of Christina, Louise and Monik Graham, the great grandmother of eight, and the great, great grandmother of two.
Dearly beloved Aunt Peggy will also be missed by her nieces and nephews: David and Marty Thrasher, Judy Cooke (n. Thrasher), Steve, Glenn, Graeme, Beverly and Leslie Dondale, and Bruce, Neil and Scott Martin, along with many other family members, friends and neighbours.
Peggy served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War 2. In addition to raising her family in Pointe Claire, Quebec, she was active in the Lakeside Heights Recreation Association, the Canadian Liberal Party and the Welcome Wagon, and she worked as the school secretary of Northview Elementary School, as an administrator for the Lakeshore School Board and finally as the guidance secretary in Lindsay Place High School.
After her retirement in 1992 she moved to London, Ontario where she became a valued member of her Surrey Court neighbourhood.
At Peggy’s request, cremation has taken place and celebrations of life on Surrey Court and in Ottawa will be arranged at a later date.
In her memory, donations made to the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Carole and John. I recently found out that your mom sadly passed away this past August. I was in touch with Carole a couple of years ago and she told me that your mom was residing in London with John. She certainly had a long legacy and I remember her helping out with the Welcome Wagon and other community associations. Beth Pettinger, my mom taught kindergarten at the LHRA before they were taken over by the school board. My parents split up in 1975 and divorced in 1978. Both have since departed this world. I am in Brockville, Ontario and just wanted to send you both my condolences at this time.
