Obituary
CAMMAERT, Rose (nee Basler)…
February 19, 1950 – February 4, 2026
Rose was born in Germany on February 19, 1950. As a young girl, she immigrated to Canada with her
father, mother, and brother, beginning a new life rooted in family, resilience, and hope. She later made
her home in Ontario, graduated from Goderich High School, attended London’s Teacher’s College, and
earned her BA from the University of Western Ontario (UWO), reflecting her lifelong commitment to
learning and to the care of others.
Rose enjoyed a rewarding career with the London District School Board and the Catholic School Board,
where she touched the lives of countless students and parents through her dedication, patience, and
quiet strength. Teaching was more than a profession for her—it was a calling and a way of making a
lasting difference.
Her compassionate nature extended far beyond home; she spent three months in South Africa caring
for babies with AIDS, demonstrating the same love and devotion that defined her life and work.
Rose passed away on February 4 at Victoria Hospital, surrounded by her sons, Chad and Jamie, with
family and friends close by. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Victoria Hospital for their
compassionate care.
Rose was a steady presence and a quiet light whose warmth enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She carried herself with kindness, grace, humour, and strength, making others feel seen, valued, and
deeply cared for.
She loved staying active and embracing life. Rose was an avid pickleball player, a dedicated kayaker,
cyclist, and hiker, a euchre player, and she cherished walking in Springbank Park. She loved spending
summers at her beloved cottage and the simple joy of tending her garden. She was also a passionate
Raptors fan and a lifelong traveler, always curious and eager to explore.
Survived by her sons, Chad (wife Erin) and Jamie; grandchildren, Caleb, Jalen, Asia, and Kiera; her
mother, Hermine; her sister, Linda, and Linda’s husband, Hubertus. Predeceased by her husband, Peter; her brother, Fred; and one grandchild, Nicholas.
A celebration of Rose’s life will be held on February 19 at 4:00 p.m. at Byron United Church, 420 Boler
Road, London, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to London Cancer Research.

May God rest your soul beautiful Rose. You were so loved and cherished by many. My sincerest condolences ❤️
Rose taught all my boys. She understood the nature of young boys and they were treated with gentleness and respect. Such a wonderful influence on their lives. She always had a smile on her face with an eager openness to conversation. Thank you Rose.
Rose taught both my daughters. As a parent it was so comforting to know what great hands they were in. She was fair and compassionate in every way. It was evident that teaching was a calling for her. My daughter went on to be a grade one teacher and uses some of Rose’s techniques in her own classroom.
So very sorry to hear of Rose’s passing. I knew her at St. Michael’s School for many years and so impressed by her teaching skills and great personality. I loved hearing her stories of her island cottage adventures! Bless you Rose as you begin your newest journey.
Rose was the best teacher my kids had a st. Micheal rest in peace

Dear Rose’s Family.
I was deeply saddened to hear of Rose’s passing. I had the privilege of knowing her for over ten years, ever since we met on the pickleball court. We even had the thrill of being tournament partners once, a memory I will always cherish.
Although the pandemic kept us apart physically in recent years, I often thought of her and the incredible spirit she had. She was truly one of a kind—from her love of her cottage up North to her adventurous soul that took her walking the Camino all by herself. She lived life fully and inspired those around her to do the same.
My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time. She will be missed more than words can say.
With deepest sympathy,
Sunny Chan
I bid you farewell today, Rose.
You inspired me to do more, to smile more and to laugh more.
You get to continue to spread your wings of kindness on the other side.
Dear Chad & Jamie,
We are so sorry for the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful, kind spirited lady. We have such fond memories of her over the years and especially at the cottage. Our kids still talk about picking blueberries with her on uninhabited islands, We only found out about her passing late or we would have attended her celebration of life. Our condolences. Love Patty & Gerry
